The Department of Radiation Medicine at the University of Kentucky Markey Cancer Center is dedicated to offering patients the most advanced cancer care available in one convenient, supportive and comprehensive center. A variety of multi-modality techniques are provided, along with specialized clinics and individual treatment strategies that emphasize outpatient care, as well as social and emotional support. In addition, the department's ongoing commitment to clinical research allows many patients to take advantage of important investigative therapies.
As part of a dynamic university medical center, radiation medicine enjoys a close relationship with a variety of specialty areas, including medical oncology, urology, gynecologic oncology, anesthesiology (pain management) and various surgical specialties. This multidisciplinary team approach ensures excellent continuity of care, as well as seamless integration of services.
The medical staff includes board-certified radiation oncologists who bring a diversity of expertise to the treatment of virtually all types of cancer. The clinical team also includes skilled radiation oncology nursing staff, experienced medical physicists, dosimetrists and registered radiation therapists. A variety of support professionals, including social workers, chaplains, dietitians, and financial counselors are available to meet the psychosocial needs of each patient.
We consider it a privilege to work with you to provide the highest level of care for your patients. An important component of that care is ongoing communication with the entire radiation medicine care team. During the time we are providing therapy to your patient, you may expect to hear from us on a regular basis. You may also reach us at any time by calling the department directly at (859) 323-6486, or toll-free through UK-MDs at 1-800-888-5533. You may also use the UK-MDs number to arrange a referral for a new patient, or to obtain a consultation with a member of our team. The service may also be used to request progress reports, lab results or discharge information on referred patients.
Many patients treated through the Department of Radiation Medicine are able to receive care close to where they live and work. One convenient satellite treatment facility is located in Morehead. This facility offers the same complete coordination of care, including important support services for patients and families, available at the UK Chandler Hospital
